Respiration – the process by which cells obtain/release energy by breaking down glucose
Stage 1 – GLYCOLYSIS
Stage 2 – THE KREB’S CYCLE
· takes place in the mitochondria
· smaller glucose molecules combine with oxygen, break down, and release a lot of energy

Stage 1 – GLYCOLYSIS
- molecules of glucose are broken down into smaller molecules in the cytoplasm, there is no oxygen involved, very little energy is released
